The Importance of Link Age

For you to make the right decisions regarding the effectiveness of your link building campaign, you should know that NOT all link juice is passed to your website at once after the link is built. In fact, for most links, it will take up to 6 months for the link juice to be passed to your website for 100%. Take a look at the table below showing the percentage of link juice passed from SB0-SB10 backlinks during the first 6 months of use.

Month of Use % of the Passed Link Juice
1st 10%-15%
2nd 20%-30%
3rd 50%-60%
4th 65%-80%
5th 90%-95%
6th 95%-100%

As you see, this progression is gradual. Please note that the higher the SB of the backlink is, the longer it takes for link juice to flow to your website. For example, for SB9 and SB10 backlinks, this period can be from 6 to 12 months. Whereas for SB0-SB2 links this period is shorter – from 1 to 3 months.

That’s how Google determines whether the link is natural or not. If it appears for a few months and then disappears, your website rankings won’t even change. Google only trusts old backlinks that stay alive for long. That’s what proves to Google they are real.
